1. Ice Play

Ice play is a type of temperature play that is safer than fire play. It is enjoyed most in hot summer days. First be warned: ice can burn or badly damage delicate skin, so be mindful of how long you let ice rest on one area of the skin. And never insert ice into your partner’s anus or vagina.

Ice can be a great teasing tool. After putting on the blindfold, you can hold the ice in your hand or your mouth and playfully touch the ice on the nipples, neck, and genitals of your partner to see the excitement and surprise in their reactions! Have fun!

  1. Impact Play

Hitting someone during BDSM is called impact play. You do not need to be into BDSM to get in on the action. Vanilla couples hit each other during sex or flirting. A smack on the buttocks during sex is painfully common if you watch porn, pun intended. It gets kinkier when people get into switches, whips, paddles, riding crops, electric flyswatters or god knows what else. If there’s blood involved then you’ve probably crossed into the super kinky realm often called edge play.

It takes practice to be good at impact play. Safety is always the first concern. You need to aim for the area with lots of muscle or fat coverage such as the buttocks, thighs, and breasts but never near vital organs such as kidneys or eyes. Hitting directly on the bone such as the knees or elbow is not recommended either.

Impact play can induce the sub to release loads of hormones including endorphins and cortisol. It takes practice and learning to cajole these hormones out of your sub without too much work from the Dom and pain from the sub. On the other hand, some are specifically enjoying the pain itself during impact play.

  1. Knife Play

Wikipedia defines it this way: “Knife play is a form of consensual BDSM edge play involving knives, daggers, and swords as a source of physical and mental stimulation. Knives are typically used to cut away clothing, scratch the skin, and remove wax after wax play, or simply provide sensual stimulation… Knife play is sometimes, but not always, a form of fear play.”

Actually, knife play in BDSM sometimes goes beyond just a tool for mental stimulation, it often crosses the line into erotic cutting and blood play.

If used as props, knives, swords or daggers do heighten the tension in the scene and make the play realistic such as villains or rape fantasies. Sharp knives are shown to the submissive and then after the blindfold are put on. A swap of blunt knife is used to press on the skin, temperature play or even penetration of the orifices of the sub.

If used for cutting, then penetration of skin, cutting, blood letting are edge plays that require a lot of trust and knowledge for both parties. It also introduces much more risk into the play such as infections, unintentional cutting of either parties, infections, so it is definitely not recommended for most.

  1. Mummification

Being stripped away all the freedom of movement can be the ultimate submission and turn on. As the name suggests, Mummification using wraps, tapes, body bags to turn the sub into a living mummy. It also serves as sensory deprivation play especially when the one being wrapped is also unable to see.

Some use vacuum to help tighten the plastic around the body. Having a dedicated mouthpiece for breathing is very important and needs to be checked to make sure safety at all time during the play.

27Needle Play

Needle play is sticking the needle through the sub’s skin. Sometimes referred to as piercing play, needle play usually use medical needles for they are sterile and sharp.

Because it penetrates the skin, it not only is painful but also with the added risk of injury or infection. The intended effect would invoke fear and pain. When playing doctor/ patient or nurse/ patient scenes, needle play adds the feel of authenticity to the play.

  1. Orgasm Play

Orgasm play has two different variants: orgasm denial and orgasm torture.

Orgasm denial is to continuously stimulate the sub but not allowing him or her to come. The stimulation could be mental or physical. The denial can be to the point of no longer bearable or denied completely.

Orgasm denial is considered a form of power play in which one party has the power over the other party’s ability to experience release. Orgasm denial commonly uses chastity devices for extended play.

Orgasm torture is the opposite of orgasm denial. One form of orgasm torture is the Dom forces the sub to cum again and again often refusing to let the sub touch themselves. The sub might be too sensitive to the continued stimulation, hence the torture. The Dom has complete control of the orgasms and when and if a climax occurs.

  1. Pegging

Using a dildo or strap-on to penetrate a male sub anally from behind is a great way to show dominance over him. It could be a humiliation play as well. Pegging is often combined with bondage, anal training.

Strap-on sex and strap-on fantasy is very popular with existing partners or strangers when people go to pegging dating sites to meet others who share the interest.

  1. Pet Play

Being treated like a cat, a dog, or as human pets are fun and popular among many subs. It allows ample opportunities for the Dom to do obedience training, to use leashes and cages, crawling and kneeling training, treats, punishments and so much more into the scene. Dressing up your sub as a puppy or fox can also be a scene to enjoy!

  1. Piss Play

Sometimes referred to as “golden showers”, piss play is considered a kink activity, but it lends well to BDSM because domination and submission are clearly in effect when someone pisses on their partner’s body, or even in their mouth.

  1. Rape Fantasy

Always consensual, the rape fantasy involves detailed negotiations beforehand well-established safe words and safety precautions. The fantasy of being forced to have sex is called rape play or forced sex role-play.

Consensual rape play is yet another game of dominance and submission, involving force and role-play, and sometimes bondage and impact play.

  1. Scat Play

Sometimes referred to as “toilet slaves”, some submissive loves to please their Doms by touching, worshipping or eating the Dom’s feces.

There are medical reasons against doing so because of the bacteria and parasite concerns.
