Many have heard that spanking releases endorphin, but how does it work and how best to induce the release of it, and how to give the bottom the best stimulation?

First, we need to understand the concept of endorphin load. Our body does not produce or release it continuously. When properly stimulated, the body releases endorphin very quickly, and then it needs to wait a while for another load to be built up and released.

When starting a spanking session, the skin is usually very sensitive, pain tolerance is low. If we strike with force, it is likely that the experience is not very pleasant at all. It is better to keep clothes on in the beginning, keep the forces low, and gradually increase.

After a few minutes of spanking, the bottom may experience the first load of endorphins in the body. He or she should notice that the pain tolerance drastically increases and the contact of the flogger becomes much more enjoyable rather than painful.

The endorphin load is released in its entirety, once released, it could take about ten minutes to build up another load. Right after the load release, the body is not very responsive to stimulus. So even if you would want your body to release another endorphin load, you need to be patient. An experienced top will try to light up the stimulation and take a short break right after the first load is released. And then gradually build up the intensity of the stimulation. The bottom can tolerate more force and pain at this moment, but it is not how hard you hit, it is the continuous stimulation that counts. Remember, It takes about 10 minutes of constant stimulation for the body to release another load. At the peak or “edge” 10-15 seconds of intense stimulation above the pain threshold will trigger the body to eject its fresh-made, current load into the body. During the climax, the top can continue to place spanks and heighten the experience of both pleasure and pain at the same time, which is referred to as “enjoying the pain” in BDSM. At this moment, the bottom has reached level two, that after a climax, relaxed a bit because the pain stopped, but the mind is still clear with no altered state of consciousness.

As discussed before, it takes about ten minutes for the endorphin load to be build up in the sub’s body. An experienced top knows how to pass this period of time with spanking well below the pain threshold and just occasional harder hits to keep things interesting and have the element of surprise. After the ten minutes have passed, you could crack up the intensity for about 5 minutes to surpass the threshold, and 10-30 seconds of very intense stimulation to prompt the body to release another load of endorphin. Be very observant to the sub’s responses including the body language and sound he or she makes. As we move deeper into the session, the physical and mental state of your sub is going to change, here is a likely scenario that you could use as your reference.

Level 1 spanking with cloth on, warm up the skin, release of the first load of endorphin, pain threshold starts to increase.

Level 2 softer toys such as hand, flogger, and end with occasional paddle to release the second load of endorphin, more receptive to pain but adrenaline the build-up is minimum because of the medium intensity.

Level 3 harder toys such as belt, crop and use scare tactics for psychological effects the sub will feel a bit woozy or  "mildly drugged”,  their eyelids should become heavier with low moans and groans and with their inhibitions becoming more relaxed.

Level 4 there will be a very definite altered state of consciousness. The sub should have a large amount of adrenaline as well as endorphin. They should still be very communicative. Reaction time should be quick sometime hypersensitive.

Level 5 sub should have a very high level of pain threshold and fairly groggy and less able to communicate their safe word, they should be so compliant that they would agree to anything at this level. This is a good time to end the scene and start aftercare for most people.
